“Art’s Birthday – 100 Jahre Dada”: Michael Wertmüller, Michael Lentz and Gunnar Geisse

Tristan Tzara, a founder of dadaism, once stated „Everything is dada“, to which his fellow Hans Arp added „Everything is a reaction to dada“. Without any doubt the movement has developed constellations of questions that challenge artistic practices until today. A hundred years after “the big bang of modern art” Michael Wertmüller, Michael Lentz and Gunnar Geisse enter into a sonic dialogue with the remnants of this “non-art movement”, like nonsense, irrationality and intuition. Combining Wertmüller’s highly energetic and precise drumming skills with Lentz’ exuberant expressiveness (deriving partly from dadaist poetry itself) and Geisse’s guitar play, the trio takes the living dialogue with dada another step further.
Michael Wertmüller is a drummer and composer. Among others he has worked with Peter Brötzmann, Christoph Schlingensief and Rainhard Jirgl.
Michael Lentz is a sound poet and author. Since 2006 he holds a teaching position at German Institute for Literature at Leipzig University.
Gunnar Geisse is a guitarist and composer. He plays a self-designed and self-built laptop guitar.
