The contribution from RNE to the ART’S BRITDHAY PARTY 2010 consists on the world première of “Fúlgida niebla del sol blanquecino” (“The brilliant mist of the whitish sun”), a work for bass saxophone and live electronics by Alberto Posadas, performed by Andrés Gomis (bass saxophone) and Juan-Andrés Beato (live electronics) in concert at the Spanish National Radio House (Prado del Rey, Madrid).
About “Fúlgida niebla del sol blanquecino” (“The brilliant mist of the whitish sun”):
Exploration, depuration and introspection are the concepts that cross the composition process of Fúlgida niebla del sol blanquecino” (“The brilliant mist of the whitish sun”). Exploration of the sonic world that emanates from the timbral specifities of the bass saxophone, and particularly from its more occult and intimate dimensions. Introspection about the essential aspects of a sonic language in the process of depuration, about a language that tries to erase everything anecdotal and superfluous in order to focus on what is necessary. Exploration, depuration and introspection joined together in an acoustic world of radical austerity which demands a particular kind of listening transformed into an act of deep contemplation. The spirit of Castilla’s mysticism permeates each moment of the work, a work where sound abandons its function as an object to become an authentic subject.
In Fúlgida niebla del sol blanquecino” (“The brilliant mist of the whitish sun”) the sounds of the bass saxophone is expanded through space by means of the its electronic transformation, developed in six different channels. Electronic sounds emanate from the acoustic world, melting together in a total fusion. The temporal dimension of the work receives becomes more organic through the application of a Lindenmayer generative grammar system.
The processes of introspection and depuration have been developed in an individual way, but the process of exploration has been carried out in a close relationship with Andrés Gomis. Without his contribution, this work would not have ever existed.
Alberto Posadas (composer):
Alberto Posadas was born in 1967 in Valladolid (Spain). He studied composition with Francisco Guerrero.
He explored the possibilities of electro-acoustic music developing, in a self-taught way, through various projects starting with Liturgia de silencio (1995) and continuing with pieces like Snefru or Versa est in luctum (2002). His interest in investigating the application of movement to the electronic transformation of sound determined him in 2006 to become involved in a multi-disciplinary project promoted by IRCAM Paris.
In 2006 Alberto Posadas received a grant from the Casa de Velázquez, Madrid, to develop, together with saxophonist Andrés Gomis, a research project about the new interpretation techniques for bass saxophone and their application to composition.
His works have been premiered in different countries (France, Austria, Canada, Belgium, England, Portugal, Hungary, Spain…) by ensembles or orchestras as prestigious as “Quatuor Diotima”, “Arditti String Quartet”, “Ensemble Court-Circuit”, “Nouvel Ensemble Moderne”, “Xenakis Ensemble”, “Orchestre National de France” conducted by Pascal Rophé, “Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg” conducted by Arturo Tamayo.
All this has taken place in Festivals as Musica Festival (Strasbourg), Wiener Musikverein (Vienna), Encontros Gulbenkian (Lisbon) or Ars Musica (Brussels). Precisely in this last one, he received in 2002 the public prize for his string quartet A silentii sonitu. He has received commissions from the mentioned festivals of Strasbourg and Brussels, as well as from Ensemble Intercontemporain.
In December 2009, the recording “Liturgia fractal”, containing five string quartets by Alberto Posadas performed by the Quatour Diotima and published by Kairos received the prestigious prize “Diapason d’Or”.
Andrés Gomis (bass saxophone)
Andrés Gomis received his musical education at the conservatories of Madrid and Alicante, specializing later on contemporary music with Jean-Marie Londeix, recognized performer as well as pedagogue.
As a teacher, he has given courses in different cities, pointing up the permanent Seminaries that he is giving at Galicia s Auditorium of Santiago de Compostela, Cullera (Valencia) and Zaragoza. He teaches saxophone in the Professional Conservatory “Angel Arias Maceín” of Madrid and also at the Musical School of High Studies of Santiago de Compostela. Ag is a member of the International Saxophone Committee.
Regarding his artistic activity, he has collaborated with the Spanish Radio Television Orchestra, National Spanish Orchestra, Madrid Symphonic Orchestra and the Madrid Community Orchestra and Municipal Band of Madrid. He has also participated at the “II Journey of Granada Contemporary Music” and the “IV Festival of Spanish Music of the 20th Century of Leon”, and performed with the Group 21 at the Art Center Reina Sofia and at the Circle of Fire Arts of Madrid, as well as at the Juan March Foundation at Madrid and the Palau of Music in Valencia.
His relationship with the young generation of composers and his interest for the diverse musical tendencies and modern aesthetics has given birth to some works which have been dedicated to him, with a common eagerness in all of them: “that the saxophone serves as a diffusion of the new compositional language”.
Juan-Andrés Beato (live electronics)
Telecommunications engineer specialized in Acoustics and Mastering as well as a an autodidact musician, Juan-Andrés Beato has worked as a professional musician for different bands in Valladolid, developing different projects in the fields of improvisation and experimental pop. Since 2000, works as a sound engineer at the LIEM (Laboratorio de Informática y Electrónica Musical), assisting composers both at the studio and in concerts, as well as developing softw
