Composer and trumpeter Verneri Pohjola studied jazz in Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He is known for his contemporary music and performances. Few have such a background as is Verneri Pohjola´s:  his  grandfather was a famous  conductor for a lot of choirs in Finland and a member of the family where about everyone was a first class musician or music pedagogue or otherwise in the branch.  Verneri´s  father,  for his part, was a well known bass player in leading bands. And to not stop in the earlier generations, Verneri ´s brother is a trombonist, who has played in countless orchestras .

Verneri Pohjola has of course played with a great number of musicians but not only that. He has  been performing in many kinds of happenings with poets and artists.  He has released discs with one of his bands,  Ilmiliekki Quartet, lauded for instance in the Guardian. Pohjola has been touring in Europe, USA and Australia and now he is participating in Art´s Birthday.

He is absolutely one of the young avant-garde stars in the Finnish music
