THE PRESENCE OF GOD AS BIRDSONG IN THE RIGHT EAR
From auditions and other acoustic perceptions that do not come from the material world.
Live HörSpiel by Thomas Knoefel and Jan St. Werner.

Eusapia Palladino, the great Italian medium at the turn of the century produced a “tele-acoustic”, which seems often very noisy: Is the lady in a good mood, she lets it rip… as if things are alive, clanking, hissing, ringing, as if the room would begin to speak. Some say to hear a faint hammering, as if the rain beat against the windows. And beautiful melodies sound like sung from a distance and blown into the room…
This speaking shadows, voices without bodies, without a face and safe place, this présence acousmatique (Michel Chion) – the gaze hidden sound sources – are scary! What by itself audible, but is not visible, withdrawing the visibility as deliberately, represents an elusive, enormous power. What is heard is not to connect with its cause. The mystic Margery Kempe hears the presence of God more than two decades as birdsong in the right ear…a sensuous tour de force of listening.
